Conservation - Community - Service
Welcome to the Colorado Foundation for Outdoor Education website.
The Colorado Foundation for Outdoor Education is a nonprofit corporation formed in September of 2006. The purpose of the Foundation is to encourage the development of programs that get Colorado students into an environment that values lifelong learning and building community relationships. It is hoped that through exposure to the outdoors, schools, parents, and students will be better enabled to combat childhood obesity, and students will gain a greater appreciation for the outdoors and begin to understand why it is in need of protection.
The Foundation exists to raise money and obtain donations for outdoor education programs in high schools and middle schools in Colorado, and to establish a post-secondary funding source for students who are involved in ongoing outdoor/experiential education programs in their high school careers. Its primary focus will be on public schools, though charter and private schools are welcome to apply for funding for programs.
Eligible programs could include almost anything that gets students in the outdoors, ranging from rock-climbing to cycling, fishing, hiking, snowshoeing, organic farming... the possibilities are almost endless. One time events and ongoing programs are both within the scope of the Foundation, but it is asked that an environmental conservation element be a component, especially for ongoing programs; in fact, it is required for programs that last beyond a one time event.
Materials for outdoor programs are also a possibility, particularly since funding is often hard to come by, and products are sometimes the support of choice for many corporations.
